On her sofa with two paracetamol, the surreal childbirth of this mother abandoned by her maternity

In England, a woman named Eilish McKinney was forced to give birth on her own with the help of her boyfriend on her living room sofa. The cause ? The maternity ward in their town of Peterborough was full. Further proof of the great problem facing hospitals.

No, it’s not just in France where hospitals are under great pressure. And Eilish McKinney and her fiancé Tom Blackman are very well placed to testify to this. Nine months pregnant and yet followed in the hospital of her city of Peterborough, this Englishwoman lost her water on September 20. Big problem: when calling the maternity ward, the doctors were formal, there was no place available for her to give birth.

Completely furious by this refusal of support, the couple had only one piece of advice : wait for the doctors to call them back with a plan of action. After 40 minutes, Eilish McKinney and her fiancé Tom Blackman received a new call from their city hospital telling them that a place was available at another health center… located 56 kilometers from their home. That’s almost an hour by car. But it was too late: the young woman had to give birth immediately.

So, thehe couple was forced to improvise a delivery room in their living room. The Eilish McKinney therefore lay down on her sofa, took two paracetamols, and began labor … all by herself. Despite total panic, she and her companion managed to give birth to little Persy, born safe and sound despite a totally indecent situation on the part of the public hospital.

For information, public hospitals are in the midst of a crisis in England. Since last year, more than 300 midwives have resigned, pointing to totally unsustainable working conditions. A few minutes after the birth of their second child, the firefighters still arrived to take care of him and do all the necessary tests. A completely unimaginable moment.
