On Polygon: Eintracht Frankfurt tokenizes stadium seats

The football club Eintracht Frankfurt installed the seat shells in the last season Deutsche Bank Park exchanged. Each seat exists only once

The digital seat shell is a unique digital asset. Just like the real seats, each seat only exists once on the blockchain. By tokenizing the seat shells, the football club wants to prove their uniqueness – securely and transparently. Polygon was chosen because of the fast transactions. The high scalability compared to Ethereum also plays a role, as a company spokesman emphasized to BTC-ECHO. The football club that won the German championship the last time Winner in 1959 wants to ensure a smooth user experience.

In addition, gas fees and energy consumption on Polygon are significantly lower than on Ethereum. This reduces transaction costs and increases energy efficiency – a win-win situation. A successful marketing campaign for Eintracht: almost 10,000 fans have already purchased a tokenized seat shell. At a stadium capacity that’s almost 20 percent of around 51,500 seats.

Cold wallet for seat tokens

The Europa Leauge winner from 2022 relies on a cold wallet in the form of an NFC-enabled card as a storage medium. The token is thereby permanently stored on the card’s microchip, according to a statement obtained by BTC-ECHO. The digital seat shell cannot be traded, but is displayed to the fans in the Eintracht app “mainaqila” – where tickets or membership cards are usually found.

“For us, it was crucial that the fans did not need any prior knowledge of how to use blockchain technology or the use of cryptocurrency,” says Julien Zamberk, Managing Director of Eintracht Frankfurt Stadion GmbH. After all: The token is free for the fans.

Together with the digital subsidiary EintrachtTech, they are working on opening up new digital business areas. “Eintracht has held its blockchain conference ‘Block im Park’ in its stadium twice since 2022,” emphasizes a company spokesman on request. Further projects will be evaluated at the next conference.
