BR television says goodbye to Elmar Wepper. The station shows, among other things, a portrait of the deceased and his brother Fritz.

To the death of Elmar Wepper (1944-2023), who died at the age of 79, Bayerischer Rundfunk is changing its TV and radio programs. On Tuesday, BR television will show several programs at night with Fritz Wepper’s younger brother (82).

“Bayerischer Rundfunk mourns the loss of a great Bavarian popular actor and of a person valued by fans and as companions,” Björn Wilhelm (48), BR cultural program director, is quoted as saying in a press release. “Elmar Wepper was very closely connected to Bayerischer Rundfunk; every minute of broadcasting with him was a benefit. […] The loss of Elmar Wepper hurts us very much. Our thoughts are with his relatives.”

Film, portrait and conversations

It starts today, October 31st at 10:00 p.m. First, the television film “The Dream of the South” from 2004 will be broadcast, in which Wepper plays alongside Gila von Weitershausen (79) and Monika Peitsch (86), among others.

The station will then show a repeat of “Summit meeting – Werner Schmidbauer meets Elmar Wepper” from 11:30 p.m. Wepper was the passionate mountain hiker’s first guest in the format. On the way to the summit of the Mitterberg near Bad Feilnbach, the late actor talks about, among other things, his childhood and youth as well as about his brother.

On Wednesday night we continue at 12:15 a.m. with “Heads in Bavaria – The Fabulous Wepperboys”. The portrait from 2009 takes a look at the lives and careers of the actor brothers.

Fans can find a short obituary on Wepper’s death already in the ARD media library. And Bayerischer Rundfunk also broadcasts two radio formats with Wepper on Wednesday. “Eins zu Eins. Der Talk” will be shown on Bayern 2 from 4:05 p.m. and “Die Blaue Couch” will be shown on Bayern 1 from 7:00 p.m. Both conversations with the actor date from 2018.

On November 4th, the first two episodes of the series “Somehow and Sowieso” from the 1980s can be seen on BR television from 9:45 p.m. Wepper plays here alongside Ottfried Fischer (69), among others.
