How the pricing table works
Released at the end of October 2021, the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro marked a turning point in Google’s strategy for its smartphones. In addition to a radical design change, the Mountain View company has chosen to offer fairly aggressive prices. Although it has a high-end spec sheet, the standard model costs €649. A rather affordable price, especially since it is one of the best photophones on the market.
During a meeting dedicated to the results of Alphabet in the first quarter of 2022, Sundar Pichai, the CEO of the company, welcomed the success of the range in question. According to him, the Pixel 6 is the one “which sold the fastest” to be present “a real leap forward for the Pixel range”. He also took the opportunity to remind that new products would be presented during the Google I/O.
In the fourth quarter of 2021, we reached a sales record for Pixels. This happened despite significant problems in the supply chain. […] Consumer and carrier response to the Pixel 6 has been overwhelmingly positive. […] We are building broad brand awareness and making clear progress. I’m very excited about the products that are coming and can’t wait to tell you more at Google I/O.
Other products to expect
If Pichai therefore evokes the presentation of future products at the Google I / O in May – Pixel Watch or Pixel 6a, bets are off – he did not communicate precise sales figures which would allow to put this success in perspective. It is indeed not so surprising that the Pixel 6 range has sold more than the others, Google having never defined a precise marketing strategy around its smartphones before it. It should be remembered that, in addition, Pixels were only marketed in a selection of countries. It is therefore probably necessary to temper his statements, even if the signal remains good.
It remains to be seen how this range will perform in the coming months. When they were launched, the Pixels were distinguished by the presence of many sometimes annoying bugs and for some in the process of being corrected. We therefore imagine that the firm intends not to repeat the same error when releasing the Pixel 6a, which should be presented on May 11.
