A rockfall occurred on Thursday on a rock face on the Allmenalp not far from Kandersteg in the Bernese Oberland.
The report was received shortly after 4:30 p.m., as the Bern cantonal police said on request.
According to the canton police, no one was injured and no buildings were damaged.
According to the President of the Municipal Council, René Mäder, 15,000 to 20,000 cubic meters of rock fell in the area of the Allmenalp railway.
Hiking trails and cross-country ski runs have already been closed because a rock fall was expected. The company Geotest had made radar measurements and warned. According to Geotest Managing Director Daniel Tobler, it was a matter of time before the rock masses broke away. The fact that warm and low temperatures have alternated in recent weeks has been beneficial. It is still questionable whether the cable car and the high-voltage pylons in the area are intact.
