In the Eisenau area on the Salzburg side near Mondsee, a forest fire was kindled on Monday. A large contingent of fire brigade, mountain rescuers and police successfully extinguished the flames after hours of use.
The current heat wave literally fuels the risk of forest fires. On Monday afternoon one broke out near the Mondsee: The flames blazed in the Eisenau area on the Salzburg side. “That happened between Elferkogel and Zwölferkogel”, section commander Peter Ramsauer tells the “Krone”.
“Eight fire brigades and two helicopters fought the ground fire. We were able to fight it successfully after a good five hours, ”he adds. Attempts to extinguish the fire from the air did not bring the desired success. So the Floriani had to get closer, equipped with backpack fire extinguishers.
At around 9.30 p.m. they reported the fire had stopped. Fire safety continues on Tuesday. The heat could easily catch fire again. The cause of the fire is still unclear.
