Even the 160-minute film “Elvis” cannot cover all the facts about the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. So here’s a little extra.

Thanks to Baz Luhrmann’s (59) film “Elvis”, which will be released in German cinemas on June 23, the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll is finally getting a film monument that is due to him. In more than two and a half hours, Elvis Presley (1935-1977) is embodied by actor Austin Butler (30), which impressively shows: The music legend was only 42 years old, but his short life was packed with memorable moments. Here are some of them that not every hobby hip wrestler might be familiar with.

The double Elvis

The world almost saw double when it came to Elvis. Because the star had an identical twin brother who was born about half an hour before the later King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. But for Jesse Garon Presley any help came too late, he was stillborn by mother Gladys Love.

Involuntarily tied to home?

World stars like Elvis Presley will be rolled out the red carpet around the world. In fact, international organizers were scrambling to lure Elvis to their respective countries for concerts. But with the exception of just three concerts, all of which were in Canada, Elvis only performed on US soil. Allegedly, this was not due to the musician’s homesickness, but to his manager Colonel Tom Parker. Born in the Netherlands, he had come to the United States as an illegal immigrant and apparently afraid of not being left behindshould he leave the country.

Frank Sinatra wasn’t a fan

If you look for pictures of Elvis in the 1960s, there is a high probability that a beaming Frank Sinatra (1915-1998) will be found next to him. That would have been unthinkable in the early days of Elvis’ stellar career, which began a decade earlier. When asked about the newfangled rock ‘n’ roll and its figurehead Presley, Sinatra infamously let off the leather: “It’s the most brutal, ugly, degenerate and vicious form of expression I’ve ever had to listen to. […] It’s mostly sung, acted, and written by imbecile thugs.”

But over the years, a mutual respect developed between the two, which could also be described as friendship. When Elvis was hospitalized as a result of heavy drug abuse in the mid 1970’s, Sinatra immediately called him. “I told him he had to take care of himself and stop messing around. He’s too young to die and I told him that.” About two years later, in 1977, the King died.

Famous Relatives

As if the surname Presley didn’t have enough appeal, resourceful genealogists have also unearthed a special relationship. The great-great-grandfather of the 16th President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, is also related to Presley. So the two are very, really very distant cousins.

Elvis, the vaccination influencer

How willingness to vaccinate against the corona virus would have increased if a star like Elvis Presley had advertised it? In fact, the King has proven to have been an “impfluencer” as far back as 1956. Because many Americans did not want to be vaccinated against polio, i.e. infantile paralysis, Elvis was brought on board. The musician let himself be spades in front of the camera at a time when not even one percent of US teenagers were vaccinated against polio. Only about half a year later it was 80 percent…
