THE FILM OF THE DAY

Conceived as a 70s paranoid thriller, Captain America: The Winter Soldier stands out from other Avengers films. Indeed, its script is inspired by Ed Brubaker’s comics, with The President’s Men and The Three Days of the Condor as main references, while the Russo brothers’ handheld camera device immerses the viewer in the action. The protagonist himself swaps his red and blue jumpsuit for a less colorful military outfit.

Thus, the MCU delivers one of the most mature films of the franchise, in tune with our time, approaching the DC universe. Steve Rogers, played by a melancholic Chris Evans, embodies the contrasting image that his country has sent back to the rest of the world since 9/11 and the second war in Iraq, questioning the myth of the superhero and what he is supposed to represent nowadays, like The Dark Knight, Man of Steel or Batman v Superman.
