One more bug discovered for the Pixel 6… and this time it bothers repairers

The Google Pixel 6 also poses a problem for repairers. We learn this week that the fingerprint sensor calibration tool, designed by Google for technicians officiating on the device, is acting up.

Despite their undeniable qualities, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro have distinguished themselves since their launch by a long series of bugs. And obviously it continues. 9to5Google reports that Google’s latest smartphone has an additional software issue. More specifically, it is the calibration tool dedicated to its fingerprint sensor that is bothering repairers this time. This problem, highlighted on YouTube by Louis Rossmann (owner of a repair chain based in New York), is not entirely new: it has obviously been lurking since November.

In this case, the tool shows some users an error message stating that Google ” could not find the calibration software specific to this device“. It is then impossible to calibrate the fingerprint sensor integrated into the Pixel 6 screen after a repair. As specified9to5Googlethis bug concerns both professional repairers and users wishing, for example, to replace the Pixel 6 screen on their own.

A compatibility problem with Windows?

The tool, which must be installed on a computer to work, could be the victim of compatibility problems with Windows. It is in any case an advanced track on Reddit by a user claiming to be a certified Google technician. According to him, the utility would work without problems on Chromebooks. It remains to be seen how many repairers officiate on devices powered by ChromeOS…

9to5Google, who scoured the help forums, reports that a Google employee indicated earlier this month that he would look into the matter. However, no news has been given since. Note, however, that we do not know how widespread this bug is among technicians and repairers. As it stands, we can reasonably think that the tool works correctly for a majority of users. This would also explain why Google does not look more into the question.
