As we know, many malicious mobile applications lurk on official online stores. And several new software have just been discovered…

Yet very popular applications that have been downloaded hundreds of thousands of times are in our sights today.

Remember these names

Although they may seem safe and secure at first glance, some mobile applications remain very dangerous for the user. This week, four apps from the Mobiles apps Group brand are singled out. Downloadable via Google Play, they are able to redirect the Internet user to sites that steal confidential information and which can also generate unexpected additional costs for operators.

Here is the list of apps to avoid and remove urgently.

  • Bluetooth Auto Connect (over a million downloads)
  • Bluetooth App Sender (over 50,000 downloads)
  • Driver: Bluetooth, Wi-FI, USB (more than 10,000 installations)
  • Mobile Transfer: smart switch (more than 1,000 installations).

The modus operandi unmasked

If the number of downloads is surprising, it is important to note that the opinions written by users are far from rave reviews. Many refer to the presence of intrusive advertisements that open automatically. The report of Malwarebytes also returns to the method used in order to deceive Internet users.

Thus, the applications mentioned above proceed to the opening of advertisements and phishing links via the web browser approximately 72 hours after the installation of the software on a smartphone or a touch pad. Other similar tabs are then opened every two hours (even when the device lock is active).

So it is advised to quickly remove such apps and perform a full phone scan using an antivirus. Google has been informed of the actions of the developer behind these applications. These remain for the moment available on the online store. Caution is required!
