one of the biggest mysteries finally solved

The director of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom puts an end to theories and other questions by explaining an important but totally absent element from this sequel.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom is incredibly generous and refines a winning formula for Nintendo’s cult license. But those who finished the game, at least the main quest without the sidelines, were left wanting more about an element that was in Breath of the Wild. Today, we finally know why this piece of lore is no longer there.

Zelda Tears of the Kingdom’s big secret revealed

Tears of the Kingdom differs from Zelda Breath of the Wild on one point: the absence of Sheikah technology – the origin of powers and such. It, and the associated sanctuaries, have disappeared and not everyone really understands why. Nintendo not having given a clear explanation, this gave rise to different theories. A colleague from IGN US had put forward the simple hypothesis that this element was only used to beat the Scourge, the end boss of BOTW, and therefore that it was logical that it would not be in the sequel. But is that really it? Hidemaro Fujibayashi, director of Zelda Tears of the Kindgom, has put an end to the suspense.

Sheikah technology disappeared after the Scourge’s defeat. Everyone in Hyrule has witnessed it, but no one knows the reason. It is considered a mystery. It is believed that since the Scourge has disappeared, so has technology because it has fulfilled its role. It’s common to see mysterious events or strange phenomena in Hyrule anyway. Therefore, locals assumed that the disappearance was linked to ancient Sheikah technology and it seems that no one looked into it further. The civilizations of Breath of the Wild and Zelda Tears of the Kingdom are completely different. And that’s why we designed the game with concepts specific to each civilization.

That’s it, normally, you will be able to sleep soundly, unless the somewhat vague explanation does not fully satisfy you.
