“One of the most brilliant science fiction films”: Spielberg loved this blockbuster!

“Dune 2” has just received praise from one of Hollywood’s greatest masters, Steven Spielberg himself! The latter is full of praise for Denis Villeneuve’s film.

Dune 2, released on February 28, has already brought in $600 million in worldwide revenue, exploding the score of the first opus and its 400 million. Denis Villeneuve’s film won over the public and the critics… and a certain Steven Spielberg!

The two filmmakers were invited to the set of DGA Director’s Cut podcast and ET’s dad said all the good things he thought about the Dune sequel. “You made one of the most brilliant science fiction films I have ever seen”he confided to Denis Villeneuve.

Coming from the director to whom we owe classics of the genre like Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, Minority Report or War of the Worlds, the compliment is worth its weight in gold. “It’s an honor for me to sit here and talk to you.”enthused Steven Spielberg.

World builders

But the praise doesn’t stop there. “There are filmmakers who are world builders, starting with Georges Méliès, Disney, Kubrick And George Lucas. Ray Harryhausenwhich I also include in this list. Fellini built his own worlds. Tim Burton Also”underlines the 77-year-old filmmaker.

“Obviously Wes Anderson, Peter Jackson, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan, Ridley Scott, Guillermo del Toro. The list is long, but it is not that long, and I deeply and fervently believe that you are one of its newest members.”declared Steven Spielberg, speaking to Denis Villeneuve.

Steven Spielberg’s favorite scene

Then, Spielby revealed to the Canadian director his favorite sequence from Dune 2. It is the first ride of the sandworm by Paul Atréides (Timothée Chalamet). “It’s a desert love story, but for a movie that’s so desert-loving, there’s such a longing for water. Despite all the sand in this movie, it’s really a question water”explains Spielberg.

“The sacred waters that yearn for green meadows and the blue water of life. You film the desert to look like an ocean, a sea. The sandworms looked like sea serpents. And that surfing scene on sandworms is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. You made the desert look like an ocean.”indicated the director facing Denis Villeneuve.

The 56-year-old Canadian filmmaker is therefore dubbed by one of the greatest Hollywood masters, enough to get back on track to embark on the Dune 3 adventure! “It’s being written at the moment. The script is almost finished but it’s not quite finished. It will take a little time… We dream of making a third film… That would make sense to me”had confided Denis Villeneuve during promoting Dune 2 in South Korea.
