one of the most innovative vacuum cleaner robots at CES 2024

The leader in robot vacuum cleaners is taking advantage of CES to renew its range of robot vacuum cleaners. Innovations include hot water washing of mops, as well as edge-to-edge cleaning using an articulated arm, ensuring complete washing of baseboards.

Many connected home device brands take advantage of CES to present their flagship products of the year and Roborock is no exception. Indeed, the brand has just announced no less than six new products, available in three ranges.

The first concerns high-end devices, including two new robots, the Roborock S8 Max Ultra and S8 MaxV Ultra. Despite their name, they are not a simple evolution of the S8 Pro Ultra and bring real innovations, placing them among the most advanced products on the market.

Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra: the ultimate in autonomous cleaning

With its two new robots, Roborock offers very complete floor cleaning, thanks to their high suction power and their new vibrating mop. The S8 Max Ultra thus offers a suction power of 8,000 Pa, while the S8 MaxV Ultra reaches 10,000 Pa, among the most powerful on the market. Regarding the mops, both models feature the new VibraRise 3.0 module, including two vibration modules for a speed of 4,000 vibrations per minute and the ability to raise the mop by 20 mm.

The main novelty of this series concerns the introduction of excellent cleaning of skirting boards and corners, thanks to the addition of a side brush mounted on an articulated arm called FlexiArm Design. This allows you to better reach the edges and effectively remove dirt and dust. In addition, the new robots in the S8 Max Ultra series are equipped with a new additional rotating mop which also allows better cleaning along baseboards and furniture, thus ensuring cleaning of up to 99% of the surface covered.

Finally, the S8 MaxV Ultra brings unique innovations, which are specific to it compared to the S8 Max Ultra. These include the addition of an onboard voice assistant, Hello Rocky, allowing it to be controlled directly by voice without using Alexa or Google Assistant. Finally, the addition of an on-board camera – indicated by the V for Vision in the product name – allows you to add advanced features, such as advanced obstacle detection and video calls. In addition, it makes it possible to intelligently identify dirt on floors and automatically adapt the cleaning strategy accordingly. Finally, the S8 MaxV Ultra is the brand’s first robot to offer Matter support, facilitating integration into connected ecosystems and reducing battery consumption.

RockDock Ultra: the most complete cleaning station

The two products are particularly similar and take the keys to autonomous vacuum cleaner robots, namely a charging station equipped with a 4 L clean water tank, a 3.5 L dirty water tank and a 2.5 L dust bag, ensuring great cleaning autonomy without human intervention. Roborock also offers this series in two versions: the first with a classic RockDock Ultra station including two water tanks, as well as a shorter version, without water tanks, connecting directly to the inlet and the ‘water evacuation. This approach is different from those of other brands, which simply offer a single version of the base, connectable to running water with an optional connection kit, but which takes up more space unnecessarily. Unfortunately, the version to be connected to water will not be available in France, at least initially.

In any case, all versions of the new S8 Max Ultra series include the new RockDock Ultra station capable of washing the mops using water heated to 60 ºC and drying them with hot air to 60 ºC, thus preventing the proliferation of bacteria and mold, thus ensuring better hygiene on a daily basis.

It should also be noted that Roborock continues to differentiate itself from the competition by offering a dedicated mop cleaning brush, unlike others who are satisfied with a removable plastic board equipped with nubs for scrubbing the pads. This approach provides much better cleaning of the mop, but can make cleaning the station more complex.

In addition, the brand has caught up with Dreame by now including the automatic addition of detergent, thanks to a tank integrated into the station. Finally, the RockDock Ultra is able to detect the dirt collected after cleaning the mop and re-wash it a second time if necessary.

Price and availability

The Roborock S8 Max Ultra and S8 MaxV Ultra will be delivered from April 2024. However, initially, only the most expensive version will be available in France.
