One Piece on Netflix: You’ll never guess where Alvida’s pink pirate ship came from

The One Piece teams on Netflix had the chance to reuse settings from another series to create Alvida’s ship.

From Captain Flint to Luffy, there is only one step. Or rather a ship. The design team on Netflix’s One Piece series did a phenomenal job bringing Eiichiro Oda’s designs to life. In addition to the Baratie and the Vogue Merry, two essential locations in season 1, they also had to recreate other ships: that of Vice-Admiral Garp or even that of Alvida.

The terrible pirate played by Ilia Isorelýs Paulino, who drives Kobby and his teams crazy, has the particularity of being quite egocentric. Her flag represents a heart and her boat is all pink… just like her outfit. Rather than starting from scratch, the teams reused the sets from the Black Sails series, which they worked on between 2014 and 2017. Carried by Toby Stephens, it told the adventures of the legendary Captain Flint and his men.

One Piece is much weirder and crazier than Black Sails, but we build the sets the same way. These are scenes filmed on the water too… everything, that the teams already know how to do”we can read in the press kit sent by Netflix.

An image of the Man O’ War on the right

It was the Spanish boat A Man O’ War that was chosen and repaint in pink to become Alvida’s Miss Love Duck in One Piece. The first required 3 months of work and 50 people to build it full-scale. To reflect the image of its owner and be as faithful as possible to Oda’s drawings, the teams custom-made a giant duck head (pink, of course) then added wings to the side. The result can be seen in the video below (from 45 seconds):

Unfortunately, there is little chance that Alvida and her boat will make an appearance in the officially ordered season 2 of One Piece, since her character is not important at the moment (and the writers have to make cuts). .
