Samsung is finally looking into the software update of its folding smartphones. The company has announced that the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 will soon benefit from One UI 5.0, the latest software overlay from the South Korean giant.
The year 2023 promises to be gloomy for smartphone manufacturers. Samsung, yet the world leader in this field, has thus revised its estimates downwards. They will only sell 263 million devices. The chaebol intends to take advantage of the vogue for folding smartphones to maintain its revenue. These high value-added products are finally achieving commercial success. We can say it, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 are finally reliable and durable products. How long the road has been traveled since the Galaxy Fold whose screen cracked from the first uses.
One detail, however, marred the forward march of these devices destined to become ubiquitous in the near future: they will always benefit from the latest One UI updates. While the entire range of traditional smartphones from the South Korean manufacturer, from the Galaxy A13 to the Galaxy S22, has already received the latest iteration of One UI, the folding ones had to wait four weeks. That said, it’s understandable: by their very form, they require very specific interface adaptations.
Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 will receive One UI 5.0 before Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3
One UI 5 is an overlay of Android 13. Android Tiramisu will not only bring interface improvements, new features, and performance optimizations but also a strengthening of security. In addition to this, as they are serviced well after the others, Samsung’s folding devices will be entitled to security updates in November. They will benefit from Samsung’s own features. Bixby Text Call, for example, will allow you to answer a phone call through a text message that will be read back by Bixby to the caller. A very useful feature which will however only be available in Korean at first. The French version should arrive during the next year.
Users enrolled in Samsung’s beta testing program will be the first to download the One UI 5.0 update. As for the others, they will have to wait a few more days. One UI 5.0 is expected to roll out to the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 in the coming days. The Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 will arrive in the coming days.
