One year by Julian Bugier at 1pm of France 2: “We show France as it is”

INTERVIEW

Audiences on the rise, several records, and a narrowing gap with TF1… France 2’s 1pm newscast in Julian Bugier style seduces viewers. The journalist took the lead for just a year. On the occasion of this first anniversary, the journalist is the guest of Philippe Vandel on Monday in Media Culture
. Julian Bugier details what makes his mark in the news and what he intends to do in 2022. “Come and watch us, and you will tell me if you are convinced!”, Laughs the presenter.

“Relaxation and good humor”

Arriving at the head of the 13h, Julian Bugier wanted to install his style. “The 1pm, it’s a state of mind, it’s a mood, it’s an atmosphere. We like it or we don’t like it, but it’s a style,” he explains. “I think a newspaper is embodied, so I try to do it in the most spontaneous way. With rigor and seriousness, but also giving it a style of my own. It is also a relaxation and a good mood, in the magazine part of the newspaper. “

An incarnation that Julian Bugier had less materialized when he was the joker of the 8 pm newspaper, which he considers “more ceremonial” and “more statutory”. “And then, when you’re number 2, it’s more complicated,” recalls the journalist.

An editorial line “more public service”

The 13h presented for a year has also undergone changes in substance. “We have refocused the editorial line so that it is clarified, simpler, with more decryption … More public service, in short,” sums up Julian Bugier. “The editorial line is also closer to the territories, with more important regional illustrations than what we have been doing until now.”

In this desire to be closer to all French people, the 1pm of France 2 has also reinvested the field of consumption, with the creation of its section “Behind our labels”.

“An idea for France”

But the new major column launched by Julian Bugier is the one called “An idea for France”. “The good ideas of the French have been my martingale for a long time. The idea is to highlight the initiatives of the French and to show that all is not going badly in France, that there are people who are turning up. sleeves and doing great stuff, ”he explains. “This column is embodied by a wonderful journalist full of good humor called Valérie Heurtel.”

“We did not make the revolution, but all this contributes in small steps to modify and enrich the editorial offer”, continues the presenter. “We show France as it is. You just have to travel through the territories and walk around the region to see that there are not only things that are going wrong. There are also things that are wrong. are doing tremendously well, and we have to talk about that too. “

Relocated programs, a first for 15 years

To echo the French and their concerns, Julian Bugier’s 13h did not only increase the subjects in the regions and on everyday themes. For the first time in 15 years, the newspaper has relocated its studios on several occasions to small towns in France. A habit that will continue at least until the legislative elections of 2022, and that Julian Bugier would like to perpetuate.

“We want, in the context of the electoral campaign, not just to echo the proposals which are sometimes the candidates’ race for shallots,” explains Julian Bugier. “We also want to give a voice to the French who have ideas to spare. And perhaps we can reverse the paradigm: whether it is the presidential candidates who will dig into the good ideas of the French.”
