A young woman was found dead in her apartment in Arras. Neighbors were alerted by the crying of her one-year-old baby.
“We heard a baby crying since last night” explains a resident of this building in the Hochettes district, in Arras, for journalists from La Voix du Nord. In the apartment from which the cries come, lives a 32-year-old young woman, Laura. She is the mother of a baby barely a year old and is separated from the father. Laura hasn’t heard from her family all weekend. Worried, his relatives then contact the emergency services. Around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday April 11, firefighters broke a window to enter the apartment.
The young woman is found, unfortunately dead for at least 24 hours. Near the body, her child was crying, still alive and apparently in good health. Upon discovery, an investigation is opened. An autopsy will be performed in the coming days to determine the cause of death. According to the observations made by the firefighters on the spot, the body of the young woman would not bear any trace of blows, and the death could be natural. The infant was handed over to the young woman’s family pending further decisions.

Two neighbors of the building testify for the voice of the North of Laura’s temper. She was unemployed, and raised her child well. Marine says that “Her child was healthy, always well dressed. And he never cried very long when she was with him.” Laurence goes further “I would even say that she was a brave mother, I saw her a few times going up the stairs alone with her pram and her groceries at the same time, because it happens that the elevator breaks down. She adored her baby. I saw her two or three days ago, she was very smiling, not depressed.
According to her two neighbors, Laura was in a relationship, but her relationship seemed complicated. Her companion, also unemployed, and she argued a lot. “The baby was screaming and you could often hear the doors slamming” Marine said.
