OnePlus is also starting to put AI in its smartphones

On smartphones, artificial intelligence is no longer futuristic since the launch of Samsung’s Galaxy S24. Devices including a large part of the Galaxy AI functions rely on the expertise of Google, which projects itself as a leader in mobile AI. Its recent Pixel 8 has also inherited certain intelligent functions, such as Circle to search (Circle to search), and it is rumored that on Apple’s side, options of the same ilk will appear with iOS 18. Other manufacturers are starting to position themselves on the sidelines, such as OnePlus, which is deploying, in China, the first functionalities relating to the AI.

Don’t get carried away if you own a OnePlus 12 or a OnePlus 11, pinned on Reddit and other social networks, since the update bringing new intelligent functions to both smartphones is included in ColorOS, the software operated by OnePlus in China; it is also common to Oppo smartphones, which suggests their deployment on smartphones – premium, at least – from this other brand. THE changelog of ColorOS (PHB110_14.0.0.403(CN01) or PJD110_14.0.0.405(CN01) depending on the model) includes various fixes and system improvements, which accompany “Smart services”.

Automatic summaries and photo editing

We find features reminiscent of those of Google and Samsung, but whose description suggests that the AI used by OnePlus is not yet at their level. AI Summariser thus offers “generate call summaries” which include times, locations, actions and “other key information” ; it is therefore not yet a question of transcribing the entire communications and providing summaries. The OnePlus 11 and 12 also gain an automatic article summary function, and promise to extract the “key information in one click”. A third and final function, called AIGC Remover, presents itself as a generative AI allowing the extraction of items in images, and the filling of the background left empty, in the wake of Magic Eraser type functions.

So many functions which are not available, to date, on the international versions of OnePlus terminals, since they are equipped with OxygenOS outside the Chinese market. However, we can hope that the brand will add the same type of features to them later.
