OnePlus: like an air of deja vu for its first folding smartphone?

2022 could be the year of OnePlus’ first folding smartphone. A model which, however, would not be new, since the Chinese company could simply sell under its banner a certain … Oppo Find N.

The folding smartphone sector is still struggling to take off. Only one player is doing well so far: Samsung, with its products from the Galaxy Z range (Fold and Flip). Others have tried the experiment, with more or less success, such as Motorola with its Razr or TCL with a ready model, but which ultimately did not see the light of day. And when attractive models are made official, they are generally not marketed outside Asian borders, like the Xiaomi Mi Mix Fold or the Oppo Find N.

An Oppo Find N in the colors of OnePlus?

But if it is unlikely that the folding smartphone from Oppo will be marketed one day in our region, it is not impossible to see it there nevertheless. Indeed, according to leakers such as Yogesh Brar, it looks like OnePlus is planning to unveil a folding model this year. And the device in question would not be completely new, since it should be a Find N in the colors of OnePlus. Remember that Oppo and OnePlus are part of the same group (BBK Electronics) and that in addition to sharing certain designs on their various smartphones, the two brands could therefore in the future share the same smartphones, operating under different names. What’s more, Pete Lau, CEO of OnePlus and head of the Oplus entity, which brings the two brands together, was involved in the design of the Oppo Find N. It is therefore not surprising that his company can benefit from the smartphone.

If this rumor is true, it would not be impossible to see OnePlus offer its Find N elsewhere than in China since the company has a strong influence in Europe and the United States. This would allow consumers to take advantage of Oppo’s folding smartphone, which remains to this day one of the most interesting models we have seen and experienced.

Very few differences would remain between the Find N and the OnePlus version. The format and aesthetics will be similar, even if the name will be different. The software interface should obviously be different since it is OxygenOS that would be installed there. Finally, OnePlus could decide to integrate a newer chip, although it is not impossible that the device will come out with a Snapdragon 888.
