This Thursday, OnePlus unveiled its new range of smartphones with the OnePlus Nord 2T 5G and OnePlus Nord CE2 Lite 5G. In addition to these two phones, the Chinese manufacturer has also announced a new pair of wireless headphones. After the OnePlus Buds, the OnePlus Buds Pro, the OnePlus Buds Z and the OnePlus Buds Z2, the firm now has headphones directly integrating the Nord range, the OnePlus Nord Buds.

These are headphones with a relatively original format. Admittedly, these are indeed in-ear headphones – therefore with silicone tips and passive isolation – equipped with stems, but these stems change compared to the models present on the market. This is a relatively short and rather flat rod that is reminiscent of the extension that could be had on old Bluetooth headsets designed for making calls.

We are dealing here with rather light earphones weighing 4.8 grams per earphone and a 41.7 gram case with relatively compact measurements of 67.9 x 35.5 x 28.68 mm which will allow it to be easy to store in a jeans pocket. The headphones are also IP55 certified and are therefore ideal for sports use thanks to their resistance to dust, sweat or rain.

Large drivers for more bass

In terms of the sound formula, OnePlus has integrated two rather large transducers into its OnePlus Nord Buds since there is a 12.4 mm diameter titanium speaker in each earpiece. Enough to allow, on paper, a good bass response thanks to this substantial format. For Bluetooth, the brand does not specify which audio codecs are used, for one can, without too much risk, imagine support only for AAC and SBC given the price segment. Still for Bluetooth, the headphones are compatible with version 5.2 of the wireless standard and therefore offer a range of 10 meters. Finally, a low latency mode is offered on “certain OnePlus smartphones”the manufacturer then announcing a latency reduced to 94 ms, against 200 to 250 ms for wireless headphones usually.

The main shortcoming of the OnePlus Nord Buds is obviously the lack of active noise reduction. If the headphones do offer passive isolation thanks to the tips and an analysis of ambient noise for calls using four microphones, they will not be able to completely isolate you in your bubble in the metro or in the street. No transparent mode is offered either.

In terms of autonomy, the OnePlus Nord Buds benefit from 41 mAh batteries in each earpiece and a 480 mAh battery in the case. Enough to offer up to 7 hours of use with the headphones alone or up to 30 hours in total with the case. It can also be recharged by wire, – but not by induction – with 10 minutes of charge for 5 hours of listening.

Where the OnePlus Nord Buds stand out, however, and justify their inclusion in the Nord range, is their particularly affordable price. The headphones will indeed be offered at a price of 49 euros from May 24 in France. They will only be available in black in France.
