OnePlus Watch 3 Launch: Addressing Previous Model's Shortcomings

OnePlus has launched the OnePlus Watch 3, enhancing its predecessor with a rotating bezel and a larger 1.5-inch AMOLED display. The smartwatch now includes an ECG feature for heart health assessments, pending regulatory approval. It boasts improved battery life, lasting up to 16 days in power-saving mode, and retains a stainless steel build. Available in green and black for 249 euros starting February 25, it integrates health tracking with a dual processor but lacks 4G connectivity.

Introducing the OnePlus Watch 3: A Leap Forward in Smartwatch Technology

Last year, OnePlus made waves with the launch of its OnePlus Watch 2, marking a significant return to the smartwatch arena after its initial model. This year, the excitement continues with the unveiling of the OnePlus Watch 3, which promises to build on the successes of its predecessor while addressing its previous shortcomings.

Design Enhancements and Display Improvements

The OnePlus Watch 3 preserves the sleek design of last year’s model but elevates the user experience with the addition of a rotating bezel for seamless navigation through menus. The borders around the display have also been refined for a more modern look. Despite these upgrades, the watch retains its robust stainless steel construction, featuring dimensions of 46.6 x 47.6 x 11.75 mm.

One notable upgrade is the larger AMOLED display, now measuring 1.5 inches compared to the 1.43 inches of its predecessor. This display can reach an impressive brightness of 2200 cd/m². However, it maintains the same resolution of 466 x 466 pixels, resulting in a pixel density of 311 pixels per inch, slightly lower than before.

Health Monitoring and Performance Features

OnePlus has placed a strong emphasis on enhancing sports and health tracking capabilities in the Watch 3. Many users were disappointed by the absence of an electrocardiogram (ECG) feature in the previous model, but this time, the OnePlus Watch 3 includes an ECG sensor. This feature supports a new “60-second assessment” that evaluates heart health, stress levels, and recovery status.

It’s important to note that the ECG functionality will require approval from health authorities and is set to be introduced in France in the second quarter through a software update. Additionally, the brand has improved the accuracy of both cardio and GPS features for an enhanced tracking experience.

Exceptional Battery Life and Availability

One of the standout features of the OnePlus Watch 3 is its impressive battery life, which was a hallmark of the previous model. The watch continues to utilize a dual processor and dual operating system configuration but now comes equipped with a larger 631 mAh battery, up from 500 mAh. This upgrade promises up to five days of usage in regular mode, three days in intensive use, and an astounding sixteen days in power-saving mode.

While the smartwatch does include an NFC chip for contactless payments, it should be noted that it lacks 4G connectivity, meaning it cannot function entirely independently of a smartphone.

The OnePlus Watch 3 will be available in two stylish colors — green and black — starting February 25, with a retail price of 249 euros in France. Stay tuned for our comprehensive review of the OnePlus Watch 3 to explore its features in depth.
