Samsung is now distributing the OneUI 6.1 user interface known from the Galaxy S24 to mid-range models. However, the update is missing a crucial feature.

Along with the Galaxy S24, Samsung introduced a new user interface called OneUI 6.1 in mid-January. In the past few weeks, the South Korean manufacturer has also updated many of its premium smartphones and tablets from 2023, 2022 and 2021 with the software. Samsung is now expanding the rollout to mid-range cell phones and tablets.
As the fan blog SamMobile reports, the Galaxy A54, the Galaxy A34 and the Tab S9 FE as well as the Tab S9 FE+ are currently receiving the update. However, not yet worldwide. According to SamMobile, the A54 is being provided with the new firmware in Poland, the A34 is currently only receiving OneUI 6.1 in South Korea, according to the blog, and the same applies to the two FE tablets.

And fans have to accept another downer. Because a core element of the new user interface is reserved for Samsung’s premium models: the artificial intelligence Galaxy AI. This translates phone calls for you, helps with editing photos or creating texts. All of these features are not available on the models. The update only contains a few rudimentary AI-based image optimization options, which Samsung does not count as Galaxy AI.
The reason for this is probably the hardware of the devices. Samsung relies on significantly less powerful processors that do not offer a dedicated AI core. For this reason, not all AI features of the Galaxy S24 are available on older premium models.
OneUI 6.1 mainly brings improvements in details
Instead, the update brings more detailed improvements to the devices. You can now, among other things, extract content from images using drag and drop and copy it into another image. The search function has been improved and there are more lock screen widgets. Your Samsung device will let you know when the update is available, then follow these steps to install it.
In parallel to OneUI 6.1, Samsung is currently distributing the May update to the first devices; it fixes over 40 security gaps in the system.
