Fortuna missed the jump to promotion ranks

Ambitions for promotion meet fear of relegation: While Eintracht Braunschweig fights for a point against Fortuna Düsseldorf, the Rhinelander mourn a missed opportunity.

Fortuna Düsseldorf did not get beyond a draw with relegation candidate Eintracht Braunschweig and missed the jump to the promotion ranks of the 2nd Bundesliga. The team of coach Uwe Rösler separated 0-0 from table sixteenth. The fifth-placed Rhinelander remain unbeaten in the sixth game in a row, but with a win they could have drawn level on points with VfL Bochum in second place.

After all, the draw after two previous defeats was a respectable success for Eintracht, but it doesn't really help them in the table. "We want to deliver a big fight," said Eintracht coach Daniel Meyer before the game and his team actually held up well against the favorite, who had recently won five times in a row. The hosts went into the duels with commitment and defended closely. New signing Brian Behrendt, who played for Braunschweig for the first time, also contributed to the stable defense.

Düsseldorf took control of the game, but was hardly dangerous in front of the hosts goal – with one exception. In the ninth minute, Kenan Karaman appeared free in front of Jasmin Fejzic after a transfer from Rouwen Hennings, but the Eintracht goalkeeper parried. After winning the ball, the Braunschweiger tried again and again to get quickly in front of the Düsseldorf gate. However, the passes to the top were often too imprecise, so that the Lower Saxony had no real chance of scoring until the break.

Eintracht did not become dangerous even after the break. Braunschweig had a little more from the game and came more often into the opposing half, but Düsseldorf goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier had a quiet evening with an overall less spectacular football game.
