Only electric cars – VW is already introducing combustion engines in the first country

The end of combustion engines in Europe is not set in stone, but it has been decided for 2035. This is why manufacturers are moving massively towards electromobility. Volkswagen will even completely phase out gasoline and diesel engines in one European country in just a few weeks.

In Norway, VW will be a purely electric brand from 2024. As the national importer Møller announced, sales of combustion engine models will be discontinued at the turn of the year. Instead of the Golf and Polo, only the brand’s ID models are available. VW’s bestseller in Norway is the ID.4, which is in second place on the Norwegian car hit list with almost 6,000 sales this year. The non-EU member is a leader in Europe in the electrification of road transport – electric cars have a market share of more than 80 percent there. In 2025, the government wants to completely ban the sale of combustion engines. According to electrive.net, the Norwegian VW importer had already announced last year that it would only sell electric cars from 2024 and has now officially confirmed this step. The announcement was made to celebrate the brand’s 75th anniversary in Norway. According to current plans, the brand only wants to go purely electric in the early 2030s.
