Only one combustion engine – German Car of the Year: These are the class winners

A jury of 38 renowned motor journalists chose the five class winners for the “German Car of the Year 2024” award. They were selected from all the significant new products introduced over the past twelve months. Four of the five finalists are pure electric cars.

MG 4, VW ID.7, Kia EV9, Porsche 911 Carrera T and Hyundai Ioniq 6 took the lead. The overall winner, i.e. Germany’s car of the year, will now be chosen from these five winners. The result will be announced at the beginning of October. Among the compact cars with a basic price of up to 35,000 euros (Compact), the new MG 4 was able to assert itself, while the Volkswagen ID.7 was most popular with the jurors among the premium models with a basic price of up to 70,000 euros. In the luxury segment with a purchase price of over 70,000 euros, the Kia EV9 won. In the category of vehicles with alternative drives (New Energy), the Hyundai Ioniq 6 came out on top, and in the sporty “Performance” class, the winner is the Porsche 911 Carrera T. The jury currently consists of 38 German and international independent motor journalists. It is supported by the consulting company Aitastic and the companies Alcantara, Bridgestone, Gentex, KST Motorenversuch and ZF Friedrichshafen. The German Car Award is being held for the sixth time.
