Scene Thomatal: The only real positive outlier in the Lungau is Thomatal, the fourth smallest town in Salzburg. This is the community that should be expanding by 27 percent by 2042. With just over 350 residents like Tweng, the percentages seem more dramatic than they are. “The community bought a piece of land, and four apartments are being built there,” explains office manager Roland Gappmaier. If three people settled from outside Thomatal per unit, this would result in growth of 3.5 percent.
