Only second evidence – Rare wildcat fell into a “photo trap” in Tyrol

An East Tyrolean hunter managed to take extremely rare photos of a European wildcat. This is only the second proof in the state of Tyrol.

The photos of the East Tyrolean hunter are the first photo evidence from Tyrol. It is considered a wild biological sensation and has now been confirmed by experts. For a long time, the European wildcat (Felis silvestris) was thought to be extinct in Tyrol. The hunter observed the animal in the municipality of St. Johann im Walde. Only after some time did he realize the importance of these photos. He then sent them to the Tyrolean Hunters’ Association for assessment. The first proof was in 2013. Incidentally, the first proof of wildcats from Tyrol came from See in Paznaun in 2013. At that time, a hunter found hair from a European wildcat and had it analyzed.
