The DXOMark company has passed the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra through its test protocol to find out what it has in its belly. Samsung does not fail in its reputation on the screens since the Galaxy S23 Ultra is a great vintage: only the iPhone 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max are ahead of it in the ranking.
During our test of the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra, we gave this high-end smartphone a score of 9/10 on the screen part. In our opinion, this screen is almost flawless (brightness, size, definition, fluidity), except perhaps for the color calibration.
DXOMark has also tested this Samsung phone in depth in its laboratories and it must be recognized that the panel of this model has something to please. If this new model is better than its predecessor in terms of the screen, it is far from being the case on the photo part.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra takes 3rd place
DXOMark has updated its ranking of the best screens for smartphones by adding Samsung’s latest : he climbed to third place on the podium, just behind the iPhone 14 Pro And iPhone 14 Pro Max, whose screens – also designed by Samsung – had obtained the perfect score of 10/10 in our columns. With a score of 148, he is only one point behind iPhone and distance of some points iPhone 13 Pro, iPhone 13 Pro Max And Google Pixel 7 Pro.
The company notes significant improvements over the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, particularly in terms of motion control and color rendering. If the brand’s Ultra remains the best on video and adaptive refresh rate, DXOMark still notes a delay on readability and on thealiasing.
The Galaxy S23 Ultra is certainly less prone to color saturation, but it still is.except for the colors of the skin tones for which the human is very sensitive and would be disturbed“. On the other hand, we note alow flicker frequency and too high brightness for night reading“.
For those keen on details (which make all the difference, we grant you), the company specifies that “the S23 Ultra is 10 nits brighter in low light than the S22 Ultra, which helps HDR scenes look more realistic.“However, this engenders a “brightness too high for night reading“. Also, where the S22 Ultra had an orange cast, its successor has a green cast.
A few words about the audio, which DXOMark also analyzed. For the company, the results are more mixed with a score of 139 points, which places Galaxy S23 Ultra in 17th place only. If the overall performance is good, with present and powerful bass, volume changes are inconsistent and the sound stages offered could be wider given the dimensions of the phone.
