Onset of winter in Dublin: Baerbock waits hours for Airbus de-icing

Baerbock waits hours for Airbus de-icing

If the weather doesn’t want it, all people are the same. Foreign Minister Baerbock has to wait for hours to be able to take off from Dublin with her government plane. As can be seen in the pictures, this had a properly frozen “nose” – thanks to the onset of winter at night.

There were hour-long delays in Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock’s trip to Ireland and Great Britain. At the airport in the Irish capital Dublin, the Greens politician and her delegation had to wait several hours for the government Airbus to be de-iced on Friday after the onset of winter. The departure for the visit to Great Britain, which was actually planned for 11.30 a.m., was delayed again and again.

According to local media reports, numerous flights were delayed at the airport during the day – also due to problems with de-icing the machines. In Ireland on Thursday evening there was the first major onset of winter since 2018 with heavy snowfall and sub-zero temperatures.

Strategic dialogue with London

Baerbock flew to Dublin for a visit on Thursday. In London, she wanted to meet her British colleague James Cleverly on Friday afternoon. The first meeting as part of the German-British strategic dialogue agreed in mid-2021 should deal not only with the situation in Ukraine, but also with the future of youth and study exchanges between the two countries in Brexit times.

The strategy dialogue was founded in order to maintain a close connection and concrete cooperation with Great Britain as an important partner after Brexit – the country’s exit from the European Union in 2020.
