Open Swede – This stunning e-roadster is a Polestar

Polestar, Volvo’s electric offshoot, has just come onto the market with the Polestar 2. Now the Chinese-owned Swedes are drawing a strong emotional card and showing their vision of an electric roadster. Called O₂, the chemical formula for molecular oxygen. The thing is drawn so sharply that you can easily take your breath away.

It is a purely electrically powered 2+2 seater with a variable hardtop. The O₂ is crisply proportioned with a long wheelbase and short overhangs. The body, made from a newly developed thermoplastic, is characterized by large, smooth surfaces. Low-turbulence airflow on the wheels and rear lights as well as digital exterior mirrors make the outer skin aerodynamic, which should have a beneficial effect on the range. When closed, the O₂ looks like a sports coupe thanks to its two-part hardtop. If necessary, the roof construction with a large glass surface disappears in the rear of the vehicle. The interior is kept puristic. There are sporty seats and a 15-inch touchscreen. The surfaces of the interior were made from a material based on recycled polyester. A special feature of the O₂ is a small drone that is hidden behind the rear seats, protected from onlookers and the wind. The driver can activate the drone, which then automatically extends to a starting plateau and from there swings into the air while driving. It automatically follows and films the vehicle up to a speed of 90 km/h. The video is then transmitted to the display in the vehicle. Polestar wants to launch a new model this year and in the next two years – but a convertible is not yet included.
