As part of his first conference Developer Day in San Francisco, OpenAI made announcements that could be game-changers in the world of conversational artificial intelligence. At the heart of this conference, the launch of a customizable ChatGPT and an improved version of their flagship model: GPT-4 Turbo. But, also… a App Store for his ChatGPT.

Customization at your fingertips with GPT Builder

Imagine being able to manipulate a ChatGPT so that it talks like you, knows your files or responds exactly to what you want. This is what is proposed GPT Builder. Previously, this was possible with the GPT API. Now, OpenAI says it’s a piece of cake: you don’t need to be a crack at coding to create your own GPT.

Sam Altman, the boss of OpenAI, is fully behind this idea. He said in front of everyone: “It’s going to be huge. It puts the power in everyone’s hands.” He took the opportunity to announce that ChatGPT has 100 million users today.

People who pay for Plus or Enterprise ChatGPT subscriptions will be able to start building chatbots starting today.

The future of sharing with the GPT Store

The other announcement to remember is the GPT Store. It’s a bit like the App Store, but for chatbots. Creators of custom GPTs will be able to distribute their creations on the platform. OpenAI is even considering paying creators based on the popularity of their GPTs.

This application store for artificial intelligence could well transform the chatbot ecosystem, by facilitating access to specialized tools and by promoting quality content creators.

API Assistant

OpenAI launched theAPI Assistants, a new tool for developers looking to integrate chatbot capabilities into their applications. This specialized AI is tailor-made with precise instructions, an enriched knowledge base and the ability to use different models and tools to complete complex tasks.

The Assistants API notably provides advanced functions such as code interpretation and automated management of arduous tasks, simplifying the creation of qualitative AI applications.

GPT-4 Turbo

Finally, they announced the GPT-4 Turbo. It has a memory capacity that can encompass up to 128,000 characters, which amounts to over 300 pages of text in a single command. They have boosted its speed and efficiency so that GPT-4 Turbo is much more affordable: the cost for processing input data is now three times lower, and for generated responses, it is halved compared to the GPT version -4. It is also more up to date with information up to April 2023 (instead of September 2021) and it is quicker to respond.

In addition, they announced that they had made the interface much simpler. The user no longer has to juggle between different parameters: GPT-4 Turbo directly offers the best available option, thus simplifying interaction with the AI. GPT-4 Turbo is available for all paying developers to try out by the way gpt-4-1106-preview.

With these new features, OpenAI is not only keeping pace with technological developments; the company dictates it. We will have to see how Google and Facebook react, but also the other players, including this Frenchman.
