Opening in the old town – Salzburg has one more bread attraction

Josef Weghaupt wants to connect the Waldviertel and Salzburg – with his bread. In the “Joseph Brot” branch opened on Monday in Salzburg’s old town, there was a great rush to unlock it. Bread and pastries are baked here according to Weghaupt’s idea. Only Weghaupt has not yet found the baker in Salzburg.

On Monday at 8.30 a.m., Josef Weghaupt opened his Salzburg bakery and patisserie in Münzgasse. There was a riot around the hot cakes and loaves of bread. Sourdough bread, hand-made pastries and sweets are served here on the Budl made of Adnet marble and handmade tiles. Like almost everything with Weghaupt’s organic bread and baked goods, even the furniture in the shop comes from the region. And also the jackets of the employees. They come from Lungau – virgin sheep’s wool from the Tauern. “We want to make bread for the people of Salzburg here. There is already good bread, but there is a little lack of inspiration, ”explains Weghaupt from Waldviertel. Its seventh branch is supposed to enrich the bread landscape instead of ruining it. “It will certainly take two or three years before something happens. But competition also invigorates bread as a cultural asset. ”Fresh bread despite unsuccessful bakery searchWeghaupt spent nine months looking for suitable bakers for his business in Salzburg. Despite only day work and attractive wages, he couldn’t find any. For the first few months he brought experienced bakers to Salzburg from his branches in Vienna. For the moment, the Joseph bread will get its second baking cycle in Salzburg from Viennese bakers’ hands. Yet.
