When theaters reopened in June 2021, the French comedy Opération Portugal had met with some success. Its sequel will start filming, still directed by Frank Cimière and interpreted by D’Jal.
It’s official ! The comedy Operation Portugal will be the subject of a sequel to be seen exclusively at the cinema! The comedian D’Jal, known for his sketch on the Portuguese, will again be directed by Frank Cimière, and this from July 24, the date of the start of filming. Both co-sign the screenplay for this second film, the synopsis of which is unknown for the moment.
For the record, Operation Portugal had met with great success (more than 450,000 admissions) in June 2021, in a complex period for cinema attendance.
The first opus of Operation Portugal follows Hakim, 35, a friendly neighborhood cop of Moroccan origin. He must infiltrate the Portuguese community for the purposes of an investigation. But can you become Portuguese in three days?
Especially when you know that in intervention Hakim is a walking disaster. His clumsiness and his bad luck transform his numerous initiatives into cataclysms. The suit is clearly too big for him!
Quickly trapped between his feelings and his mission, Hakim, who lives alone with his mother, will discover a community, but also a family.
This first feature film was inspired by the greatest success of this humorist from the Jamel Comedy Club, the sketch The Portuguese, a sequence noticed in particular thanks to Marrakech laughter. The video of this sketch (to be seen from 3min58 in the player above) would accumulate 20 million views on Youtube.
As director Franck Cimière explains, “this project was born in D’Jal’s head, and it’s a mess in his head, there are a thousand ideas a second. He mastered this Portuguese character and he had the idea of putting him in the situation of an undercover cop. Which fits him like a glove.
My role at the start was to organize all his ideas and structure them to tell a story. With characters we believe in.”
