The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) Prize was awarded for the 77th time in London on Sunday evening (February 18). Christopher Nolan’s (53) historical epic “Oppenheimer” (2023) turned out to be the winner of the evening: the story about the inventor of the atomic bomb was awarded a total of seven times.

This must have particularly pleased the British heir to the throne, Prince William (41) – President of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts since 2010 – because he came out according to The Telegraph not only as “a big fan of Christopher Nolan”, but also of his work. Prince William “loved ‘Oppenheimer'”.

“Oppenheimer” and Co.: These are the winners of the BAFTA Awards 2024

Nominated in 13 categories, Nolan’s masterpiece won the BAFTA award seven times: In the “Best Film” category, the historical epic beat out “Anatomy of a Case” and “Poor Things”, and Nolan himself won the award for best director and the Irish actor Cillian Murphy (47) won in the “Best Actor” category. Robert Downey Jr. (58), who played the role of Lewis Strauss (1896-1974) in “Oppenheimer,” was awarded best supporting actor. Nolan’s work also impressed in the film music, camera and editing categories.

With five awards, Giorgos Lanthimo’s work “Poor Things” became the second winner of the evening. Hollywood star Emma Stone (35) was named best actress for her role as the unconventional scientist in the science fiction work. And thus prevailed against “Barbie” actress Margot Robbie (33).

Actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph (37) was awarded best supporting actress for her role in “The Holdovers”. The award for best young actress went to British actress Mia McKenna-Bruce (26). “The Zone of Interest” was the winner in both the “Best British Film” and “Best Foreign Language Film” categories.

Prince William finds words of praise

Prince William, who spent the evening without his wife Kate (42), who is currently recovering from abdominal surgery, praised all the “good British films and good directors” who are nominated this year. The heir to the British throne has “seen less than ever before” in recent months, reports “The Telegraph”. That’s why he made a list of films that he and his wife Kate could watch.

The prince is said to have been particularly fond of the Holocaust drama “The Zone of Interest”. And another film is also on the heir to the British throne’s list: “I haven’t seen ‘Barbie’ yet,” the royal is said to have admitted, “but I want to.”
