After Paul Schrader, filmmaker and screenwriter of great renown, author in particular of Taxi Driver, it is the turn of another sacred monster to praise Oppenheimer.
On July 18, Paul Schrader, director of the recent Master Gardener and screenwriter of Taxi Driver and Raging Bull, called Oppenheimer “the best film of the century.” Today, it’s the turn of Oliver Stone, Oscar winner for Platoon and Born on the 4th of July, to declare his love for Christopher Nolan’s film.
In a series of posts published on his Twitter account, the director of Born Killers or JFK praised the biopic about the father of the atomic bomb.
“Saturday I watched for 3 hours Oppenheimer, captivated by the story of Christopher Nolan. Its storyline is complex and fascinating. Knowing the book by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin well, I once refused the project because I couldn’t find its essence. Nolan found it”he confided.
Between Platoon, JFK, Born on July 4, Nixon, World Trade Center or Snowden, Oliver Stone has explored many times the tragic stories that have marked American history. It is not surprising to note that he wanted to bring to the screen the fascinating and controversial career of Robert Oppenheimer.
“His directing is astounding and breathtaking as he takes loads of incidents and turns them into a thrilling torrent of action, all carried over into all those talking scenes. Every actor surprised me, especially Cillian Murphy , whose expressive gaze fits perfectly for the role of a genius like Oppenheimer”he added.
Oppenheimer is a classic that I thought was impossible to achieve in today’s climate.
