Oppenheimer: what record duration for Christopher Nolan’s event film?

Christopher Nolan has just revealed the duration of Oppenheimer, his next feature film. And it’s a record.

Christopher Nolan has just confirmed the length of his next film Oppenheimer. The feature film, which tells the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer, a physicist whose work led to the creation of the atomic bomb during the Second World War, will last precisely 3 hours and 9 seconds.

This was announced by the director during the recording of a TikTok video where he presents the IMAX 70mm copy of Oppenheimer. It is therefore the longest film by the filmmaker, yet already accustomed to works of more than 2h30 since Interstellar lasted 2h49, The Dark Knight posted 2h32 on the clock and Tenet kept us in suspense for 2h30.

If the films have been getting longer for the past few years, Christopher Nolan did not wait to make the pleasure last in his films.

Announced on July 19 in our dark rooms, Oppenheimer is the first biopic of Christopher Nolan. The film will contain IMAX footage shot in black and white and images of a nuclear explosion that the director managed to recreate without resorting to digital effects. This is the first black and white feature film to benefit from IMAX technology.
