Oppo is preparing a competitor to the Galaxy Z Flip, powerful and cheaper

Oppo is reportedly hard at work on a foldable clamshell smartphone. This competitor to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip would be marketed at a more aggressive price.

Chinese manufacturers are investing in the nascent folding smartphone market. We have already seen the Huawei P50 Pocket and its popular compact format, but the Chinese brand should soon be joined by Oppo. It is an indiscretion drawn on Weibo by the SamMobile site which teaches us: the manufacturer would think of a flip smartphone similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Flip.

A powerful and affordable smartphone

Little is known about this project yet. The source claims that the phone should be released as early as this year, presumably in the fall and would be particularly powerful. Like the future Galaxy Z Flip 4, this foldable Oppo smartphone would use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+, Qualcomm’s next best chip planned to equip the year-end flagships.

Where it gets particularly interesting is that Oppo would get into a price war with Samsung. As a reminder, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 was launched at 1059 euros in France in 2021. According to rumour, Oppo’s foldable phone could be launched at 5000 yuan, or around 713 euros excluding tax.

As SamMobile reminds us, this was already the case with the Oppo Find N launched at the end of 2021, powerful and cheaper than the Galaxy Z Fold. What bring more competition for Samsung in a market where the Korean giant is for the moment very alone in Europe.
