Oppo Watch Free: Inexpensive watch for sports, fitness and sleep – with snoring analysis

In addition to smartphones like the Oppo Find X5 Pro and the wireless in-ears Enco 2X, Oppo is also launching a new smart watch for fitness and health: the Oppo Watch Free. Visually, the Oppo Watch Free is reminiscent of an elongated Apple Watch with its rounded edges. But what can she do? And what does it cost?

Oppo Watch Free: Colorful OLED display

The OLED display has a diagonal of 1.64 inches and can display 16.7 million colors. Oppo speaks of an HD display, but the resolution is only 280×456 pixels. The glass is also slightly rounded on the surface (“2.5D glass”). The dimensions: 40.4×17.6×11.95 millimeters; Weight: 21 grams without strap, 33 grams with strap. The Oppo Watch Free is available in either black or “vanilla”, a kind of beige.

Fitness and sports functions

A six-axis motion sensor and an optical heart rate sensor are installed to record movement, training and fitness. When it comes to running training, courses help to align the training with one’s own goals, such as increasing fitness or increased fat burning. When training, the Oppo Watch Free supports over 100 sports modes. And if you only want to monitor your own movement activity, you can view the daily movement in the “Daily Activity” menu. There are also short videos on keeping fit in the office.

Oppo monitors heart rate

The heart rate is not only recorded during training, but 24/7. The Oppo Watch Free should sound an alarm via vibration in the event of unusually high heart rates or irregular heartbeats.

Sleep and snoring analysis

A special feature is the sleep analysis “OSleep”. This should recognize sleep disorders, and it also provides an assessment of the personal risk of snoring. However, the recording of snoring noises requires a connected smartphone due to the lack of a dedicated microphone. In addition to sleep data, the Oppo Watch also uses data from the continuous monitoring of oxygen saturation (SpO2) and information on heart rate variability to evaluate snoring. As an evaluation of the sleep analysis, the watch shows the blood oxygen content during sleep, the number of individual snoring noises, the maximum snoring volume and information on sleep duration and phases.

Oppo Watch Free: Long battery life

The manufacturer promises a battery life of 14 days for the Oppo Watch Free. Amazing: The battery should be charged after only five minutes so that the watch lasts a whole day.

Smart features

There are no real apps to install later, so the Oppo Watch Free is not, strictly speaking, a smartwatch despite the Apple Watch look. But there are some functions related to a paired smartphone: Incoming notifications and information about calls are displayed. Music playback on the smartphone can be controlled and the cell phone located (“Find My Phone”). If you want more smartwatch functions, you should be better served with other products such as the Fitbit Versa 3 (around 160 euros).
  • Accurate heart measurement

Oppo Watch Free: price, release

The Oppo Watch Free will be released at the end of March 2022 at a price of 99 euros. You can choose between the colors black and “vanilla”.

Assessment: Oppo Watch Free

The Oppo Watch Free focuses on essential fitness and sports functions. If the promised performance is achieved, it could establish itself as an alternative to the overly cheap Apple Watch clones. Because despite the low price, there is a built-in heart rate sensor and a high-contrast OLED screen. Sophisticated smartwatch functions are missing. COMPUTER BILD provides an overview of the best Apple Watch alternatives in a separate article.
