St. Pauli is ruining its own series
FC St. Pauli is still at the top of the 2nd Bundesliga after the 12th matchday, but after six wins in a row against Werder Bremen they leave too many good chances – and thus important points. In the end, the video referee also bothers.
SV Werder Bremen – FC St. Pauli 1: 1 (0: 0)
Second division leaders FC St. Pauli scored one point in the north duel against Bundesliga relegated Werder Bremen after falling behind. The team of coach Timo Schultz and Bremen separated 1: 1 (0: 0). In front of 42,100 spectators in the sold-out Weserstadion, Marvin Ducksch initially put Werder in the lead in the 62nd minute. Finn Ole Becker equalized just five minutes later. In the table, St. Pauli is now at the top with 26 points. Werder have ten points less and remain in midfield.
The hosts started energetically and with a pull forward. After a free kick chipped into the penalty area, Füllkrug lifted the ball just wide of the goal (9th). The Bremen fans cheered for the first time in the 24th minute: Marco Friedl had, however, put the ball into the goal with his hand. Accordingly, the hit did not count.
On the other hand, it took half an hour for the first big chance to score. St. Pauli’s captain James Lawrence headed just over the goal from a free kick. Overall, however, Werder remained the much more active team in the first round. St. Pauli improved in the second half and had several top-class chances of scoring the winning goal after equalizing. In stoppage time, Simon Makienok scored the alleged 2-1 for St. Pauli, but after the video assistant intervened, the goal did not count due to a handball.
Hannover 96 – Erzgebirge Aue 1: 1 (1: 1)
Hannover 96 remains in the lower third of the table. The Lower Saxony came against relegation candidate Erzgebirge Aue not more than a 1: 1 (1: 1) and remain in sight of the relegation region. The 96 have been waiting for a win for five games. Sebastian Kerk (4th minute) gave the home side the lead. Dimitrij Nazarov equalized a few seconds before the half-time whistle (45th + 1). The Hanoverians climbed one place to 13th place, but coach Jan Zimmermann had hoped for more momentum from his team after the 3-0 win in the DFB Cup three days earlier against league rivals Fortuna Düsseldorf.
The Auern did not change anything at the penultimate place in the table despite the point win. The Saxons remain the only team in the 2nd division without an away win. The Auer’s hopes after their recent win against Ingolstadt were disappointed early on. After a defensive mistake by Anthony Barylla, 96 professional Kerk did not miss the chance. However, FC Erzgebirge put away the setback, repeatedly cranked up the offensive and even had more play. His efforts were rewarded by Nazarov, who hit from an acute angle. The second half rippled calmly along. There were hardly any compelling chances to score on either side. However, Aue remained the more dangerous team.
Dynamo Dresden – SV Sandhausen 0: 1 (0: 0)
Dynamo Dresden can no longer win. The Saxons lost 0: 1 (0: 0) to SV Sandhausen in their own stadium. With the first guest chance in the game, the former Dresdner Pascal Testroet brought the SVS into the lead after 50 minutes. In front of 11,144 spectators in the Dresden stadium, which was not sold out, the hosts couldn’t think of much offensively, so they conceded their fourth defeat in a row without a goal of their own.
In the first half, the hosts were the better team in a rather unspectacular game. The Saxons had control of the game, but there was no more than a header from Luca Herrmann (22nd) on the post. Sandhausen defended well, but coach Alois Schwartz’s team did not succeed in the offensive except for a long-range shot by Chima Okoroji (32nd), which went over the goal.
The early goal at the beginning of the second half then played Sandhausen into the cards, Dynamo had to come, the guests withdrew and consistently defended. But there weren’t any great chances because the Dresden team acted without the necessary precision in attack.
