Optimum thermals – 17-year-old is Vice World Champion in model flying

At the world championship for remote-controlled model gliders, Christian Brandner took second place among the juniors and is therefore vice world champion. Using his strength alone, he threw the light aircraft up to 70 meters high.

After 17 rounds, 17-year-old Christian Brandner was able to smile about his medal and can call himself Vice World Champion in model flying. In each run at the World Championships in Sanpedru, Romania, Brandner had to fulfill a flight task and find the optimal thermals so that the glider pilot could fly as long as possible. It was also important to be able to take off again quickly after a short stopover. Brandner ultimately prevailed against young people from Poland, Germany and South Africa. The man from Salzburg is a student at HTL in the field of electronics and computer engineering. He has been operating the modular flight for six years. Before the World Cup, he practiced takeoffs and landings for up to four hours several times a week. At the weekends, the 17-year-old was helped by his father, who is a successful model pilot himself.
