PARIS, March 30 (Reuters) – Orange’s board of directors will ask its shareholders to approve the appointment of Jacques Aschenbroich as its new director and chairman in May, the leading French telecommunications operator announced on Wednesday.

The choice of the current president of the automotive supplier Valeo for this non-executive post, revealed by Le Monde last week, comes after the appointment at the end of January of Christel Heydemann as general manager following the resignation of Stéphane Richard from the post of CEO and the decision to split the two functions.

The appointment of Jacques Aschenbroich, aged 67, implies that the general assembly amend the company’s statutes “in order to allow a chairman who reaches the age limit of 70 during his term of office to be able to go as far as ‘at its term,’ said Orange in a press release.

The board also proposed the appointment as new director of Valerie Beaulieu-James, member of the executive committee of the Adecco group, and renewed the mandate of Ramon Fernandez as deputy managing director.
