Orange goes all out on television with a new WiFi 6 decoder and a fiber offer with 4K TV

Orange has just pulled out all the stops on new TV features. For good reason, the operator is simultaneously launching a new Wi-Fi 6 compatible decoder as well as a fiber optic offer with 4K TV. We take stock together.

While Orange is currently testing an application under Android TV and tvOS to offer its TV services without requiring a decoder, the operator has just proven that it is not yet ready to abandon hardware solutions.

Because, the company launched a brand new TV decoder on April 11, 2024. It was about time, some would say, with the latest model dating back to 2018. With the TV Decoder 6, Orange is finally allowing its subscribers to discover the joys of WiFi 6, for improved reception and increased stability for TV programs and streaming films/series. It’s a shame not to have pushed the envelope further by offering Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 compatibility, but we’ll make do.

Orange upgrades its TV decoder to Wi-Fi 6

Furthermore and unlike the operator’s new decoder launched in Poland, this one is not powered by Android TV contrary to what one might think. What about other improvements? The TV Decoder 6 is equipped with a latest generation processorwhile the amount of memory has been doubled according to Orange. Concerning image quality and audio, the device offers 4K HDR and compatibility Dolby Atmos. Unsurprisingly, apps from several streaming services like Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime Video or Paramount+ are pre-installed on the device.

Although it will be necessary to do without Google Assistant integration, the TV Decoder 6 compensates for this shortcoming with the presence of Alexa, Amazon’s assistant. As a result, users will be able to control their device by voice, without having to use their remote control. Of course, The TV Decoder 6 provides access to all of the operator’s TV services:

  • i.e. more than 300 channels
  • optional access to several bouquets and SVOD/streaming services
  • Canal+ offers
  • from VOD
  • the Replay
  • but also video games, radios, Deezer and YouTube.

Live control is also includedjust like the recordings (more than 300 hours according to the company).

An ecological decoder

Finally, let us add that the TV Decoder 6 was designed with an eco-responsible approach. Footprint Progress certified by Bureau Veritas, the device has a carbon impact reduced by 41% compared to the previous model. Performance made possible through the use of shells made from 100% recycled and recyclable plastics (also removable for better repairability), and a 70% reduction in electricity consumption.

For those interested, the TV Decoder 6 is provided in the Livebox Max Fiber and Livebox Max ADSL offers. As a reminder, the Livebox Max Fiber package includes the Livebox 7 (Wi-Fi 6E compatible), the Wifi Sérenité service (expertise from Orange technical services, up to 3 repeaters offered), a 20 GB Airbox on request or even Stop Pub functionality to block unwanted calls on your landline. Note that it is possible to request a second TV 6 decoder (activation fee of €10 is required). This offer is displayed at 34.99/month during the first 6 months, then €57.99/month thereafter (12-month commitment).

But that’s not all. At the same time, Orange also announced the launch of the Serie offer Special Livebox Fiber + Smart TV. Like Bouygues or SFR, this formula allows you to benefit from a fiber optic subscription accompanied by a 4K Smart TV. For the occasion, the operator has teamed up with Samsung. Concretely, this offer includes:

  • a Samsung connected TV to choose from 8 models between 43 and 65 inchesfrom €49
