The Olympic Games are fast approaching, and its effects on the French are already being felt. This is why, for the occasion, Orange mobile will automatically transfer all its subscribers to its 5G network.

We are not very far from the Olympic Games now. And it’s starting to be felt, with the subject coming back more and more in the news, whether it’s when the Paris prefecture uses the Fr-Alert system for a simple reminder, or when Anssi is skeptical about the country’s ability to counter all cyberattacks that will take place during the Olympics. And today, we’re talking about it on a happier note, at least for Orange mobile subscribers!

5G for everyone this summer at Orange

Do you have a mobile plan with Orange that does not include 5G? Well, you are going to appreciate this news that comes to us from the French telecommunications giant. It has just announced that all of its customers in the country will be able to use this network.

Only condition? Have a smartphone that is compatible with 5G. According to figures given to us by The Parisian, this opportunity could concern around half of the group’s 22 million national subscribers. This transfer of all 4G subscribers to 5G began on Monday June 3, and will last until Sunday September 8.

Temporary antennas to support the network

Dates which obviously owe nothing to chance, since the operation begins approximately a month and a half before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games and ends on the day the Paralympic Games end. Orange thus wishes to avoid seeing its lines saturated during the event.

It’s a win-win. And beyond the commercial offer, this allows Orange to manage the influx of connections upstream to avoid any saturation. Usually, in case of network congestion, 4G users already switch to the 5G network. There, everything is anticipated » indicates the telecoms specialist from Sia Partners, Renaud Kayanakis.

Furthermore, to densify its network, and prevent the world in Paris this summer, which will share images of the event, from leading to too massive an influx of data to be transported, and therefore a net slowdown in exchanges, Orange has installed around ten temporary branches in Paris (and around fifty in total in France). Everybody is ready ?
