The new supporting program for the 2021 Oscars is taking shape. The pre-show will mainly set musical highlights.

Due to the pandemic, the 2021 Oscars were completely redesigned. All parties and events that are normally part of the supporting program have also been canceled. The awarding Oscar Academy still wants to offer pre and post shows, as the organizers have now announced.

According to a statement from the the “Hollywood Reporter” quotes, all artists who are nominated in the category for Best Song will be allowed to perform their songs in the course of a pre-show. Not live, however. The performances are recorded in advance. HER with “Fight for You”, Celeste with “Hear My Voice”, Laura Pausini with “Io sì (Seen)”, Leslie Odom Jr. with “Speak Now” and Husavik with “My Home Town” are nominated. Usually the nominees always perform during the award ceremony.

Following the award ceremony, the ABC broadcaster will broadcast a TV show that shows the highlights again.

Slimmed down event

Only a relatively small group of people may be present in person at the award ceremony. According to media reports, only the nominees, an accompanying person and the laudators will physically take part in the 93rd edition of the Oscars on April 25th. Virtual acceptance speeches are also prohibited.

The Oscar ceremony itself is divided into two parts and takes place both at the usual venue, the Dolby Theater, and at Union Station in downtown Los Angeles.

Director David Fincher (58, “Fight Club”) has the highest hopes for an Oscar this year. His Netflix flick “Mank” with Gary Oldman (63, “The Darkest Hour”) in the lead role is the big favorite with ten nominations.
