Oscars 2021: the award ceremony has never been so late

Film fans will have to wait longer than usual for the Academy Awards in the coming year. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has now announcedthat the 93rd Academy Awards will not be awarded until April 25th. The award ceremony has never been seen so late since the event was first broadcast on TV in 1953, reports "Deadline". The event will be postponed for the first time in 40 years. The world's most important film awards were originally scheduled to be awarded on February 28, 2021. The new date is due to the coronavirus pandemic. The opening of the Academy Museum in Los Angeles will also be postponed to April 30, 2021.

A statement from the Academy says: "For over a century, films have played an important role in comforting, inspiring and entertaining us in the darkest of times. They will certainly do so this year." The postponement of the Academy Awards is intended to ensure that filmmakers can finish and publish their works without being punished for something that is beyond their control.

That is why the Oscars were previously postponed

The Oscar nominations are due to be announced on March 15, 2021, the Academy said. Films wishing to compete for the film award no longer have to be released in the cinema before December 31, but before February 28, 2021. Streaming films are also permitted for the upcoming Academy Awards.
