Never short of antics, Hugh Jackman begins the year 2023 by begging the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences not to “to validate” the nomination of Ryan Reynolds, his costar of Deadpool 3, at the Oscars with the film Spirited, the spirit of Christmas.

Hugh Jackman continues: “Now, having Ryan Reynolds get a Best Song nomination would make the next year of my life unbearable.
I should spend a year with him shooting Wolverine and Deadpool. And believe me, it would be impossible, it would be a problem. The song in question from Spirited was indeed recently shortlisted for an Academy nomination, and was written by Benji Pasek and Justin Paul, with whom Jackman worked on The Greatest Showman.
The Wolverine singer obviously jokes that he doesn’t want the song to get a mention. And even if she did get one, it would be the writers, not Ryan Reynolds, who would receive the nomination.
We guess Hugh Jackman’s real intention is to publicize the song to help his friends as voting for the nominations begins. Also, the actor would be breaking Academy campaign rules if he told voters not to vote for a movie.
The Academy will reveal the Oscar nominations on January 24.
