Osterlamm: meaning and tradition BRIGITTE.de

The lamb has always been a symbol of innocence, but in Christianity it took on a whole new meaning. Jesus himself is considered "Lamb Of God" denotes "that takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29). By sacrificing himself on behalf of the people, he redeemed the people. Christians celebrate this with the Easter Lamb Redemption act.

In the early days of Christianity, it was common to slaughter a lamb for Easter, place its meat under the altar for consecration, and then eat the lamb as Easter roast (and the first meal after Lent) on Easter Sunday, the day of resurrection. In addition to the birth of Jesus Christ, the resurrection is the highest festival of the church and is particularly appreciated with the lamb.
