Brooklyn’s Kyrie Irving has been fined $50,000. The Nets superstar had repeatedly shown the middle finger to Celtics fans in Game 1 of the NBA playoff round of 16 series against his former club Boston. Brooklyn lost to the Celtics by a narrow margin of 115:114.

Bernhard Germeshausen, a bobsledder from the GDR era, has died at the age of 70. With three Olympic victories and three World Championship titles each, he is one of the most successful bobsleigh athletes. In four-man bobsleigh he was always a pusher for Meinhard Nehmer. In a pair he successfully emancipated himself. He steered his bobsled to Olympic silver in 1980 and World Championship gold in 1981. In the Olympic competition of Lake Placid, he had to give way to Erich Schärer and Sepp Benz, but relegated the illustrious Nehmer/Musiol team to third place.
