The Capcom France team once again welcomed us to their premises to test their future 2D fighting hit, Street Fighter 6! We played it on PS5!

We no longer present Street Fighter which is reinventing itself again with Street Fighter 6! It is a monument of pop culture, not just the prerogative of players. And now the 20e game of the series, uh sorry, the sixth canon episode, points the tip of its nose. We were able to test it in advance and here is what we were able to learn from it!

Here comes 4 new challengers!

In this new playable demo that we were able to approach, only one game mode, the versus. Against the AI, or against the head of staff Capcom, who is definitely stronger than me at this game. There were not only 4 characters, but 8! So, in addition to the veterans Ryu, Chun-Li, the newcomers Luke and Jamie, this time, we were also able to play Ken, Guile, Juri and Kimberly, a little news!
Kimberly is a new ninja heroine, and is reminiscent of Ibuki or Guy. She has an option dash, which you can end up with 4-5 different shots, air shots, she throws paint bombs and has a buff when she puts her headphones on. Juri stays in the vein of what she proposed previously, with all her circular blows and her stanzas. Guile surprised us little, and Ken, a little more: He sees himself equipped with all his classic moves but also with a special move with options, and a dash with options, for even more variety and violence in his playability. We imagine him to have a very aggressive style of play. The roster is starting to take shape little by little, we already like one or two, and we can’t wait to see more.

We were able to play on two new stages! After that of Final Fight and the Japanese temple, we find a city… Japanese, tinged with red, and an aircraft carrier, that of Guile probably! He walks around on it when he’s not fighting! On the other hand, no traces of the themes heard since Street Fighter 2: we have a game played with the level selection parameters, and whatever the music chosen, nothing echoed our nostalgia.
In terms of atmosphere, we spoke to you the last time about the commentators, and we were able to see the system more closely. Two slots available, one technical and one for the show, and we had the choice between three Americans and a Japanese, certainly very famous in their respective countries. Everything can be disabled or configured to support one of the two players in particular.

We also tried the “auto-combo” mode again. Clearly, it will not be something that will allow you to play by stuffing all the buttons on the controller at random. No, it’s more for players with zero inputs. There, no need for semicircles or dragons. But, you have to re-learn how to play! The natural comes back at a gallop and we often forget between two rounds that we changed the controls to “test”!
Well, speaking of commands, on the character selection screen, you have the choice of costume, color, command mode, but also the choice between 5 button assignment presets. A nice option for a player like me who systematically changes the order of the buttons!
Let’s also talk a bit about the DualSense. Sticks were available locally, but I recently made a personal choice for fighting games in general: to keep the basic controller that was put in my hands and to no longer play the stick or the fightpad. For fighting games, the cross of the PS5 controller is sufficiently accurate. We did not experience any difficulties as we might have with the direction buttons of the Joycons… On the other hand, the DualSense functionalities are conspicuous for the moment by their absence. The commentators in the microphone? Special vibes? It is difficult to see how force feedback could be used,

I know that everyone’s tastes and colors are unique, but very honestly, I had a little trouble with the cartoon design, with big hands and feet, of SF4 and SF5. We’re back to something simpler, more realistic, but the game won’t be the graphic slap of the year (on a debug PS5, we noticed a lot of aliasing on the faces of the characters during the “face to face » loading time).
Also, we played a demo and everything is likely to evolve before the release. Otherwise, it’s rather pretty, fluid, more realistic, and the visual effects are shimmering, especially those based on paint. But to know more, it will be necessary to wait a little!
