our selection of miscellaneous facts to watch this weekend

We have to admit it: news items frighten us as much as they fascinate us. If this weekend, you have a "Netflix and chill" program, we bring you a selection of stories that are as chilling as they are perfectly told.

Got nothing to do this weekend, or are you just crazy? Why not do a news special on Netflix? A more guilty pleasure, as the enthusiasm around the Xavier Dupont de Ligonnès affair proves. This summer 2020, we appreciated the treatment of Society magazine, which humanized the victims and painted an uncompromising portrait of the alleged killer. As for Ryan Murphy's Netflix series project, dedicated to serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, he intends to give voice to the victims. Our selection is in the same vein, to guarantee thrills but also, reflection on the treatment of div 'facts.

"The disappearance of Maddie McCann"

In May 2007, Maddie, aged 3 and on vacation with her parents in Portugal, disappeared. The media coverage of the affair quickly became global. To this day, many questions remain unanswered, starting with what happened to Maddie. This docu-series looks back on the whole affair, and poses fundamental questions, such as that of the media frenzy or the treatment of women by the police institution.

"The Watts affair: chronicle of a family killing"

It was THE news item that kept the United States in suspense during the summer of 2018. On August 13, Shanann Watts was reported missing, along with her two daughters. Her husband, Chris, confessed a few days later to have killed them all. This chilling document is based on rare archival documents. From telephone conversations to images shot by close friends of the victims, we are here as close as possible to Shanann Watts and we dive into the reality of familicide.

"Ted Bundy: Self Portrait of a Killer"

The United States of the 70s shuddered following the wave of feminicides and rapes committed by Ted Bundy. If he ended up admitting to having committed, between 1974 and 1978, more than thirty homicides in seven different states, the investigation was marked by twists and turns. Dead in 1989, Ted Bundy remains one of the most famous killers in the world. This docu-series is therefore a must-see, and we prefer its fictional counterpart, far too "glamourous" (Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, also on Netflix).
